// Common questions
Before you reach out.
How long does a typical engagement take?
Web app testing typically runs 3–7 days. Infrastructure assessments 5–10 days. Red team operations can run 2–6 weeks. Timeline depends on scope and complexity — your proposal will include a specific schedule.
Do you test production environments?
Yes — most engagements target production systems, within agreed rules of engagement. We use controlled techniques to avoid impacting availability. If you have a staging environment, we're happy to discuss which suits your needs best.
What's the difference between a pentest and a vulnerability scan?
A scan is automated and finds known CVEs. A penetration test involves a human tester who validates findings, chains vulnerabilities, tests business logic, and simulates what an attacker would actually achieve. Scanners miss the things that matter most.
Can you work within a compliance requirement?
Yes. We understand PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, SOC 2, Cyber Essentials, and GDPR requirements. We can align our scope and reporting to support your compliance evidence, and issue letters of attestation if required.
We're a small startup — is Betasec right for us?
Absolutely. Many of our clients are early-stage companies getting their first security assessment before a funding round, customer audit, or product launch. We scope engagements that make sense for your size and budget.
What if you find something critical during the test?
We notify you immediately — we don't wait until the report. You'll get a direct message or call from your engagement lead the moment a critical finding is confirmed, so you can respond without delay.
How much does a penetration test cost?
Pricing depends on scope, service type, and engagement duration. We provide fixed-price proposals before any work begins. Submit a scoping request and we'll give you a transparent quote with no hidden costs.
Is the re-test really free?
Yes. Once you've remediated findings, we re-test every vulnerability at no additional charge. This is included in every engagement as standard — not an upsell. We want to confirm the fixes worked.
